Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) attended the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting held by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), Monday (5/8/2024). Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM accompanied by Malang City Regional Secretary Erik Setyo Santoso, Head of Malang City BPS Umar Sjaifuddin, and members of the Malang City TPID attended the online coordination meeting from the Ngalam Command Center (NCC) Room, Malang City Hall.
Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian who led the meeting revealed that inflation in July was recorded (yoy) at 2,13 percent, down from June which reached 2,51 percent. The Minister of Home Affairs said the inflation trend continued to decline with monthly deflation of -0,18 percent. The food, beverage, and tobacco groups were relatively under control.
"National inflation is not only the work of the central government, but the work of all regions in Indonesia, so this cooperation can suppress national inflation and can suppress it regionally," he explained.
Minister Tito on this occasion also expressed his appreciation to all stakeholders, from regional to central levels who have worked together in efforts to control inflation. The Minister of Home Affairs also encouraged regional governments to be more active in monitoring and maintaining inflation stability. "Controlling inflation at the regional level needs to be supported by awareness and consistency of regional governments in maintaining price stability, especially food," he said.
Meanwhile, Acting Mayor of Malang Wahyu Hidayat said that inflation control in Malang City is in the good category, and is ranked 22nd in Indonesia. Until the end of the first semester of 2024, inflation in Malang City is still under control. "Earlier, we had a zoom meeting with the Minister of Home Affairs, and Malang City is in the good category. This is appreciated because it is included as a district/city that can control inflation," said Wahyu.
To control inflation, he said the Malang City Government will continue to take various strategic steps, including by conducting inter-regional cooperation (KAD). "We have collaborated with several regions in East Java, such as Malang Regency, Lumajang, Probolinggo, Blitar and also Nganjuk," explained Wahyu.
KAD is carried out as a solution from the Malang City Government if there are several commodities that experience price increases. In addition, other efforts made are by holding high-level meetings, as well as conducting market operations and food kiosks to be able to stabilize prices.
Malang City inflation as of July 2024 month-to-month was recorded as experiencing deflation of 0,01 percent, year-on-year (yoy) 1,83 percent. This figure is lower than the inflation rate in East Java. However, the Acting Mayor of Malang continues to appeal to all parties to remain vigilant about price fluctuations that affect the rate of inflation in Malang City.
"From the TPID National Coordination Meeting last Monday, several commodities such as cooking oil, rice and cayenne pepper experienced price increases. That is what must be anticipated," Wahyu stressed. (cah/yon)
