Defending East Java, 47 Malang City Athletes Ready to Compete in PON XXI Aceh

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Malang City Erik Setyo Santoso, ST, MT representing the Acting Mayor of Malang released 47 Malang City athletes who were selected to be part of the East Java Province contingent who will compete in the XXI Aceh National Sports Week (PON), North Sumatra 2024. The departure of the athletes along with 16 coaches was combined with a morning assembly of state civil servants (ASN) in the front yard of Malang City Hall, Monday (2/9/2024).

Malang City Regional Secretary Erik Setyo Santoso advised the athletes who are sports ambassadors for Malang City who carry the name of East Java to give their best achievements, uphold sportsmanship and teamwork.

"Today we release Malang City athletes who are part of the East Java Province delegation to participate in PON XXI Aceh. We hope that with thorough and sufficient preparation, our sports ambassadors can produce their best achievements at the East Java level, and also later become a mainstay in the Malang City Porprov in 2025," he explained.

Erik also hopes that sports will become a lifestyle for all residents of Malang City, both employees and other backgrounds, so that their physical condition remains maintained, which will have an impact on their performance. For athletes with achievements, Regional Secretary Erik said that his party will prepare rewards that will be distributed through KONI Malang City.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of KONI Malang City, Djoni Sudjatmoko, said that his party does have the task of preparing the best and most successful athletes, both at the national and international levels.

"These 47 athletes and 16 coaches will compete in 19 sports. We are very proud, and we hope that in the next event, there will be more Malang City athletes defending East Java," explained Djoni.

Djoni said that boxing, swimming, and cycling are predicted to contribute gold medals. "All athletes are ready, and the hope is that the Malang City delegation can contribute at least 15 gold medals," concluded Djoni. (cah/yon)
