Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – The free male cat castration program initiated by the Malang City Food Security and Agriculture Service (Dispangtan) at the Malang City Animal Health Center (Puskeswan), Saturday (28/9/2024) received an enthusiastic response.

Head of Malang City Dispangtan Slamet Husnan Hariyadi revealed that his party through the Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Sector carried out this castration activity in the context of World Rabies Day which is commemorated every September 28, 2024. "This castration program is the peak activity of the commemoration of World Rabies Day in Malang City, a series of activities that have been carried out since September 23, 2024 yesterday. Castration or sterilization of male cats was carried out on 55 cats," explained Slamet.
Previously, on September 23-26, 2024, Dispangtan had held free rabies vaccination with a limited quota of 150 doses. This free rabies vaccination was carried out in order to maintain the health of pets, while also maintaining the health of pet owners and environmental health.
He added that castration of male cats was carried out to control the cat population in Malang City and to reduce the risk of certain diseases in cats so that animal welfare can be realized. "The more uncontrolled the cat population, the more likely the animal welfare itself will be neglected," explained Slamet.
Slamet also appealed to cat owners to pay attention to the welfare of their beloved pets to avoid cases of abandoned cats or cats being abandoned, which would also have a bad impact.
In this activity, the Malang City Dispangtan collaborated with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Brawijaya University and the Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI) Malang City Branch.
The owner of a cat who participated in the castration program, Putri, said she was happy because she thought it was very helpful in controlling the cat population. "With castration, the cat is also healthier. Hopefully, programs like this will be carried out more often, so that the existence of cats can be more prosperous," explained Putri. (cah/yon)
