Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan ST, MM said, with a month to month (mtm) figure of 1,67%, inflation in Malang City is still under control. He hopes that in the future the Malang City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) can maintain the Malang City inflation rate until the end of 2024. "Yesterday in the release, in the September period it was 1,83%, this time it is 1,67%, so this is well controlled and hopefully we can maintain and control it until the end of the year," he said.

Head of BPS Malang City, Umar Sjaifudin, M.Si added that several events contributed to the occurrence of deflation in Malang City in the September 2024 period. One of the major influences was the price decline of food commodities in September.

"For example, cayenne pepper, which two months ago was the commodity that contributed the highest inflation, but in September it experienced a decline, possibly due to the harvest season. The same goes for rice," he said.

Umar explained that this happened because in several areas of cayenne pepper and red chili centers have entered the harvest season, so that the stock of these two commodities is quite abundant in the market. On the other hand, the red onion harvest has ended so that the stock of red onions has begun to decrease in the market.

Another factor that also affected the inflation rate in September 2024 was the adjustment of non-subsidized fuel prices carried out by PT Pertamina (Persero). Previously, the price of non-subsidized fuel had increased twice.

In addition to conveying the development of the inflation rate in Malang City, the BRS Release also conveyed the development of tourism in August 2024. In his presentation, Umar said that the Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) in starred hotels in Malang City in August 2024 was 63,35 percent. This figure is down from the achievement in July 2024 of 2,95 points. Meanwhile, the TPK for non-star hotels is 28,09 percent, down 0,41 points compared to the achievement in July 2024.

Responding to this, the Acting Mayor of Malang said that this figure is quite good, although there needs to be some special attention in several aspects, such as improving facilities and infrastructure. With the improvements, according to him, this can increase the length of stay of tourists, which of course will affect the original income of the Malang City region. (iu/yon)
