Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – In 2024, Madyopuro Village and Bumiayu Village have declared themselves as villages with 5 Pillars of Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM). This was announced at the Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of Sustainable STBM 5 Pillars in the Acceleration of STBM Villages in Malang City at the Alliante Hotel, Wednesday (23/10/2024). Head of the Malang City Health Office (Dinkes), dr. Husnul Muarif, MM revealed that since 2022, there have been eight sub-districts that have declared the 5 Pillars of STBM, namely Cemorokandang, Sawojajar, Arjosari, Lesanpuro, Arjowinangun, Balearjosari, followed by Madyopuro and Bumiayu. Currently, 57 sub-districts in Malang City continue to process to change people's behavior to implement the 5 Pillars of STBM, namely Stop Open Defecation (BABS), Washing Hands with Soap (CTPS), Household Drinking Water and Food Processing (PAMMRT), Household Waste Management (PSRT), and Household Domestic Wastewater Management (PALDRT).
"STBM is an approach to change hygiene and sanitation behavior through community empowerment, the outcome and output of which are a decrease in the risk of stunting, the incidence of diarrhea, and other diseases related to sanitation and behavior. STBM is also one of the main assessment indicators in the Healthy City category of Wistara," he explained.
Husnul explained that the implementation of this monitoring and evaluation is an effort to accelerate the 5-pillar STBM sub-district to support the realization of a cleaner and healthier Malang City. This is in accordance with one of the sustainable development goals (TPB) or SDG's, namely ensuring the availability and management of clean water and sustainable sanitation for all. "This monitoring and evaluation is a follow-up to the joint commitment that has been carried out since 2022, and is also an implementation of the Malang City SSK (City Sanitation Strategy) policy package 'KOMPAK SAM' (Five Pillars Optimization Activities and Joint STBM Declaration with the Community)," explained the Head of the Health Office.
Representing the Acting Mayor of Malang, the Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of the Malang City Regional Secretariat, Dr. Ida Ayu Made Wahyuni, SH, M.Si said that in implementing the 5 Pillars of STBM, collaboration is needed between all related regional apparatuses and stakeholders to jointly increase the success of STBM.
Ida invited regional stakeholders as well as community and religious leaders to provide education to the community about clean living patterns so that more areas in Malang City will implement the 5 Pillars of STBM.
"There are still eight sub-districts from two districts that have committed. For other districts, we must continue to encourage together. Consistent commitment is very necessary," he said. (ari/yon)
