Malang City Government Encourages Vulnerable Groups to Become More Empowered

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) continues to strive to improve the independence and welfare of vulnerable groups. One strategy is through empowerment by providing skills and optimizing existing potential.

Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of the Malang City Regional Secretariat, Ida Ayu Made Wahyuni, gave a speech and opened the event.

This was conveyed by the Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of the Malang City Regional Secretariat, Ida Ayu Made Wahyuni ​​in a socialization activity for vulnerable groups with the theme 'The Spirit of Inclusion to Increase Community Empowerment in the Kedungkandang District Area, at the Regents Park Hotel Malang, Wednesday (30/10/2024).

The purpose of this activity is to empower vulnerable communities, consisting of women, children, the elderly and the disabled in the Kedungkandang District area so that they can be independent and participate in improving the welfare of the community in their area.

"This activity is a very strategic activity, which can increase our awareness of the issues faced by vulnerable groups. Through this socialization, we not only share information, but also build networks and cooperation to create a more inclusive society," explained Ida.

The Malang City Government is very aware of the importance of respecting differences and eliminating discrimination against vulnerable groups in society. Therefore, the Malang City Government is committed to creating inclusive development, where every element of society can actively participate.

"We have implemented various programs and policies that support vulnerable groups so that they get proper protection and empowerment. One of them is through thematic musrenbang. We collect the aspirations of vulnerable groups to ensure that their voices are heard in the development planning of Malang City," he explained.

For children, the Malang City Government is also trying to realize a child-friendly city through various initiatives, such as providing child-friendly educational facilities and child protection programs from violence. The Regional Action Plan (RAD) that has been prepared also focuses on fulfilling children's rights. For women's groups, Malang City has implemented regional regulations on protection for women and children who are victims of violence and economic empowerment for women.

"We also pay close attention to the needs of the elderly in Malang City, one of which is through the elderly posyandu and elderly empowerment. In Malang City there is also a rantang kasih program, then in order to increase attention to the disabled we apply the principle of inclusion in every aspect of development," explained Ida.

In the event attended by 160 participants, Ida said that the Malang City Government continues to strive to develop disability-friendly infrastructure and provide training to people with disabilities so that they can participate in various activities. In addition, an educational curriculum that is friendly to special children has also been implemented, one of which is through the innovation of Jarik Mak Siti by SMP Negeri 10 Malang City which was then followed up with replication from other schools.

Ida emphasized that the Malang City Government is very committed to improving friendly and accessible public services, including vulnerable groups, in this case women, children, the elderly and people with disabilities. This effort includes inclusive public spaces. Ida also invited all citizens to realize the spirit of inclusion in all aspects of life where empowering vulnerable groups is a shared responsibility.
