Acting Mayor of Malang Conducts Surprise Inspection to Monitor Price Stability and Availability of Basic Commodities

Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – To ensure price stability, availability and smooth distribution of commodities ahead of the Malang City Regional Head Election (Pilkada), Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan, ST, MT together with the Malang City Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) conducted market inspections at three points, namely Sawojajar Market, one of the retail companies in Sawojajar, and the Bulog Baru Gadang Warehouse, Wednesday (30/10/2024).

Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan together with the Malang City TPID monitored the availability of rice at the Bulog Gadang Warehouse

Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan said that this monitoring was carried out as a follow-up to the direction of the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) during the National Coordination Meeting on Inflation regarding the importance of monitoring prices and availability of basic necessities.

"Whether it's rice, vegetables, cooking oil, garlic, shallots, chilies, tomatoes and so on. For the availability of rice commodities, both in traditional markets and in Bulog Warehouses are still safe. There is a stock of 1.600 tons, hopefully it will be enough for the future," he hoped.

In this monitoring inspection, the Acting Mayor of Malang together with the Malang City TPID started from Sawojajar Market, then to one of the modern retail outlets, and ended at the Bulog Warehouse. Iwan said the difference in the price of oil and garlic in traditional and modern markets was not much different. "Superindo even has a strategy to provide a promo with a difference of one thousand rupiah to two thousand rupiah. Of course, that really helps the community," explained Iwan.

Iwan mentioned that there were several commodities that experienced significant increases, including tomatoes whose prices increased by up to IDR 10.000/kg from the usual price per kilogram of IDR 6.000 to IDR 9.000, currently the price has reached IDR 16.000 to IDR 19.000. "Tomatoes are the main staple, high in vitamins, but there has been a price increase, which is thought to be due to the scarcity of tomato stock, considering that it is not yet the season," he explained.

Meanwhile, for the prices of other commodities such as chili, shallots, garlic, from the monitoring results, they still tend to be stable. The Acting Mayor of Malang also instructed to immediately intervene if there are staple commodities that experience price increases. "This is also an anticipation of the Malang City TPID. Staple goods that are experiencing scarcity or price increases must be intervened immediately," said Iwan. (cah/yon)
