Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – In October 2024, month-to-month (mtm) inflation in Malang City was recorded at 0,20%, while year-to-date inflation was recorded at 0,65%, and year-on-year (yoy) inflation was 1,53%. The main contributor to mtm inflation in October 2024 was the food, beverage, and tobacco group with an inflation contribution of 0,10%.
Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Malang City, Umar Sjaifudin, met after the inflation release at the BPS Office of Malang City, Friday (01/11) revealed that the commodities that contributed the most to inflation were gold jewelry, broiler chicken, and tomatoes. The main contributor to yoy inflation in October 2024 was the food, beverage, and tobacco group with a contribution of 0,52 percent.
"Commodities that contribute greatly are gold jewelry, machine-made kretek cigarettes, ground coffee, university tuition fees, hospital fees, fresh shrimp, tempeh, granulated sugar, and elementary school fees," added Umar.
In October, tomatoes, meat and chicken eggs, which are one package, also contributed to triggering inflation.
"Maybe for chicken meat and chicken eggs are affected by the increase in animal feed prices. Tomatoes are also like that, and yesterday we saw the market did experience an increase. Actually in the previous five months this commodity actually became deflationary," added Umar.
This means that the price of tomatoes has now started to creep up to the real price, so it has started to creep up. "Tomatoes are a driver of inflation because they have started to decrease in the market compared to the previous month, and maybe also because of the season. Tomato deflation has been going on for almost five consecutive months," he explained.
There are several commodities that contribute to mtm deflation, thus inhibiting inflation. The first is the adjustment of non-subsidized fuel prices in early October 2024 by the government. Next are red chilies, cayenne peppers, sweet corn, potatoes and rice.
Of the 11 districts/cities in East Java, the highest inflation was recorded in Sumenep at 0,36 percent, while the lowest was in Gresik Regency at 0,07 percent. (say/yon)
