Transforming fashion waste into unique products with high economic value has become a passion for the Pelangi Nusantara Community (Pelanusa), a community engaged in the craft and human empowerment sectors.

Founder of Pelanusa, Endahing Noor Suryanti said that this Jelonusa Work Title is one of the joint steps to market various craft products from its members. "Currently, we have 40 members in Malang. Our market orientation is not only domestic, but also international. Our products have been exported abroad, such as Australia and Japan," she said.

In this Jelonusa Work Exhibition in FMIX, Pelanusa collaborated with several parties. Collaboration with a modeling agency to showcase fashion works as well as with two other companies to support its production.

"We collaborate with two companies, the first one is very young. We work together for design illustrations to produce products with a new feel. Second, we also collaborate with fellow UMKM, namely Kupu Sutera, a silk fabric producer in East Java," he explained.

Not only an exhibition of works, in this event visitors can also learn about quilting and patchwork techniques directly.

Head of Industry Division of the Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade Service (Diskopindag) of Malang City, Dian Likos, greatly appreciates the products of this local brand. "Not only did they turn waste into a new product, but these Pelanusa friends succeeded in making a creative and innovative product. With quilting and patchwork techniques, of course, making it also requires extra precision," he said.

Dian added, through this work title shows that women with the Pelanusa community can actually be more empowered. According to her, this community empowerment activity has produced various products that can be recognized and networked outside the region and even in the international arena.

As a form of Malang City Government's support for local MSMEs, Diskopindag has various programs to encourage MSMEs to move up a class and be able to compete in a wider market. "We support MSMEs by providing various training facilities for production, marketing, packaging design, and business management. In addition, there are also halal certification facilities, NIB. In addition, we curate these MSME products from Malang City to be included in exhibitions such as Inakraf, Jatim Fest, and various similar events," concluded Dian. (ari/yn)
