Malang City, with its geographical conditions and population density, is not immune from the potential threats. Therefore, preparedness and rapid response are key in efforts to protect the community and minimize the impact of disasters that can be detrimental, ranging from infrastructure, agriculture, to public health.

This was conveyed by the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Malang City, Erik Setyo Santoso during the disaster alert roll call in anticipation of hydrometeorological disasters which was held in the yard of Malang City Hall, Wednesday (13/11/2024).

Based on all of that, Erik said that the implementation of today's roll call was a constructive momentum to strengthen our shared intentions and commitments in facing emergency situations in an integrated manner.

"With a series of disaster management simulation activities that were also presented at this assembly, it was to provide a sense of readiness and alertness of the related devices in dealing with disasters," added Erik.

For that, he hopes that through this roll call all related agencies can better understand and implement emergency handling procedures properly. In addition, by improving skills, communication, and coordination, we can strengthen preparedness and rapid response to emergency situations.

Erik further emphasized to all regional government agencies to strengthen effective coordination and clear communication as well as strengthen cross-sectoral synergy in carrying out preventive measures, emergency response, and post-disaster recovery.

“Actively involve the community in preparedness activities to strengthen collaboration in disaster management, conduct checks and ensure the readiness of disaster equipment periodically, such as tents, rubber boats, chainsaws, and other equipment, so that they are ready to be used at any time.

Regional Secretary Erik also advised to routinely conduct joint exercises and simulations to improve emergency response skills, both for officers and the community. In addition, Erik also encouraged the community to participate in disaster risk reduction efforts, by educating them on how to act when a disaster occurs and protecting the surrounding environment.
