Breadfruit (malangkota.go.id) – At the launch of the National Police Task Force to support food security, the ranks of the Malang City Police together with farmers and the TNI symbolically planted chili and eggplant seeds on agricultural land on Jalan Keben II, Bandungrejosàri Village, Sukun District, Malang City, Wednesday (20/11/2024).

This program also received full support from the Malang City Food and Agriculture Security Agency (Dispangtan). Head of the Malang City Dispangtan, Slamet Husnan Hariadi said that currently there are around two hectares of land allocated for the food security program. The area of land consists of rice fields and yards.
For processing, it is not only carried out by the ranks of the Malang City Police, but also in collaboration with farmers and farmer groups (Gapoktan). The form of support provided by Dispangtan includes providing training and assistance for farmers and Gapoktan. Thus, it is hoped that agricultural products will be of better quality and maximized. "As we know, agricultural land in Malang City is very limited, so we need to increase the utilization of yard land," added Slamet.
He added, so far in Malang City, the development and management of yard land through urban farming groups has been quite significant. "Currently, there are 131 urban farming groups, for a total rice field area of 958 hectares, 778 hectares of which are planted with rice and the rest are mixed crops," explained Slamet.
Meanwhile, Malang City Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Nanang Haryono said that previously members of the Malang City Police also planted corn and tomatoes. To further strengthen the food security program initiated by the government, his party also conducts fish cultivation and chicken farming.
"This is the second location implemented by the Malang City Police. The first was in Kedungkandang, in the Arjowinangun Sub-district area. Yesterday there we carried out corn plant fertilization, approximately 1.500 square meters in area," he said.
In the area of the land, he said the harvest can be carried out in approximately two to three months. "We hope that the results will be maximized, so that they can be utilized properly," continued Kombes Pol. Nanang.
On this occasion, the Dispangtan also invited all elements of society to utilize yard and residential land to plant various commodities, such as chili, tomatoes, eggplant and vegetables, so that food security, especially in the smallest scope, namely households, is well maintained. (say/yon)
