Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud) held the Singhasari II Festival: 'Singhasari Culture Parades' at the Gajayana Arts Building, Friday night (29/11/2024). This narrative tells the life of the first Singhasari king, Ken Angrok or better known as Ken Arok with his queen Ken Dedes.

Singhasari is the name of an area in Malang which was previously called Tumapel. Ken Arok was born in Malang in 1.182 AD and according to the Pararaton book, was born from the couple King Jenggala Sri Maharaja Jayamerta Sang Brahmaraja and Ken Endog. Ken Arok became King of Singhasari from 1.222-1.227 AD.
Head of Malang City Education and Culture Office, Suwarjana, said that the festival played by 100 students and teachers is a creative, innovative and interactive learning media for students. The goal is the birth of a future generation that can love and preserve history.
"What is clear is that this is to preserve the culture and revive the history of Malang Raya through the story of Singhasari. Our message and hope is that this festival will be a medium for children's speech in schools," he added.
Moreover, many students are involved, so that information about the history of the kingdom in Malang, including in Malang City, is massively disseminated, because nationally and internationally, the history of Singhasari is already widely known, and this must be maintained.
According to him, this festival is also an effective means to continue to maintain and preserve history, especially those closely related to Malang. "In addition, this event is also to enliven National Teachers' Day which is commemorated every November 25," concluded Suwarjana. (say/yon)
