Anticipating Congestion, Parking Arrangement Trial in Kayutangan Will Be Implemented

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Ahead of the 2025 Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays, the Malang City Transportation Agency (Dishub) will conduct a trial of parking arrangements in the Kayutangan Heritage area to anticipate congestion caused by a spike in vehicle volume that exceeds road capacity.

This was conveyed by the Head of the Malang City Transportation Agency R. Widjaja Saleh Putra when met on Tuesday (17/12/2024). The man who is familiarly called Jaya said that this parking arrangement is a follow-up step to the direction of the Chief of the Indonesian Police (Kapolri).

"The arrangement ahead of Christmas and New Year is a follow-up to the direction of the Chief of Police who expects the local government to prepare parking areas, and this is part of the follow-up to the traffic engineering process that we have been carrying out since 2023. Since the beginning, the concept of Kayutangan has been free from vehicle parking," he said.

Widjaja added that socialization regarding parking arrangements has also been carried out through meetings held with the Traffic and Road Transportation Forum (FLLAJ), and it is planned that socialization will be carried out with stakeholders around the Kayutangan area starting today until Saturday to support the smooth running of the arrangement.

Separately, Head of Parking Management Division of Malang City Transportation Agency Rahmat Hidayat said, technically parking on the east side of Jalan Basuki Rahmat will be removed, except for the area that juts out onto the sidewalk (recess) at several points, which will be designated specifically for two-wheeled vehicles with a single row system. Meanwhile, the west side of the Kayutangan area will still be used as a parking area for one row of four-wheeled vehicles, and several points of the area that juts out onto the sidewalk (recess) are allowed to be used for two-wheeled parking.

Vehicles will later be diverted to park in two parking pockets that have been prepared by the Malang City Government, namely in the former Bank Mandiri Syariah area and the former DLH office. Specifically at these two points, Rahmat said that visitors will be exempted from parking fees during the trial phase of the arrangement on December 23-28, 2024.

For the sake of smoothness during the trial phase, joint officers will be on standby at four security post points, including from the Malang City Police, Kodim 0833 Malang City, Denpom V/3 Malang, Malang City Garrison, Malang City Satpol PP, and officers from the Malang City Transportation Agency. While the four security post points above are Post 1 in front of the former Kayutangan Cinema, Post 2 in front of Toko Riang, Post 3 in front of Maestro photocopy, and Post 4 in front of Bank Sinar Mas.

Rahmat said that later his party will not only provide appeals and socialization, but strict sanctions will also be given to violators who park their vehicles not in the designated places. The sanctions given are for two-wheeled vehicles will be confiscated, and four-wheeled vehicles will be locked and ticketed. "We will also give a warning to the parking attendants. If the warning is still ignored, later the naughty parking attendants will be handed over to the police," he concluded. (iu/yn)
