Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – No less than 500 cross-sector personnel together with local residents worked together to normalize the flow of the Amprong River in the Kedungkandang District, Malang City, Sunday (30/12/2024).

Some time ago, the Amprong River overflowed into residential areas in several areas of Kedungkandang because it was unable to accommodate the water discharge due to the high intensity of rain that fell and other factors such as the shallowing of the river, and the accumulation of garbage causing the blockage of the river flow.
Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan, after leading the roll call before the community service, reminded all parties to be vigilant considering that recently it has been raining almost every day with high intensity which has the potential to cause waterlogging, flooding, landslides, fallen trees, and other potential disasters.
"To prevent flooding or other natural disasters, the presence of the Tangguh Village Task Force will be maximized. Especially in several villages that are crossed by large rivers, the Brantas River, Bango and Metro River," added Iwan.
Iwan also said that the rain that falls is sometimes unpredictable, whether it is accompanied by wind, rain with high or moderate intensity. "That is why we are currently going down to clean up the garbage that is blocking (the river flow). Second, I see that there is a condition of the bridge that has decreased due to the rain and the fairly strong river flow," added the friendly smiling man.
As an effort to mitigate the flood disaster, maintenance will be carried out on the bridge that stretches over the river and the embankment or riverbank wall so that the water does not overflow into residential areas. "In addition, officers from BPBD will also provide education to the community as a step to reduce the risk of disaster when flooding occurs," concluded Iwan.
On this occasion, the Malang City Government distributed aid to residents affected by the disaster of the overflowing Amprong River some time ago. (say/yn)
