Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) invites the Board of Commissioners of Regional Development Banks (BPD) throughout Indonesia to continue to strengthen BPD governance in order to face structural and external challenges.

This was conveyed by the Chairperson of the OJK Audit Board, Sophia Issabella Wattimena, at the National Seminar of the Communication Forum of the Board of Commissioners of BPDs throughout Indonesia (FKDK-BPDSI) at the Grand Mercure Malang Mirama Hotel, Malang City, Thursday (16/1/2025).
"BPD needs to be aware of the impact of various developing risks on BPD operations such as the risk of cyber attacks, the risk of misrepresentation of financial reports, and the impact of geopolitical risks on the real sector," said Sophia.
According to him, improvement efforts are needed to make BPD ready to face future challenges as stated in the 2024-2027 BPD strengthening roadmap, including through strengthening governance, risk management, and HR to optimize BPD performance.
On that occasion, Sophia also reminded the importance of active supervisory support from the board of commissioners in strengthening the BPD to ensure that governance principles are applied at all levels or levels of the organization.
Optimizing the role of the audit committee is also essential in supporting the effectiveness of the implementation of the duties of the board of commissioners, and it must be ensured that the internal audit work unit has an independent reporting line to the audit committee.
Not only material on strengthening integrity and governance, Sophia also conveyed the outlook for future economic growth and the form of OJK's support in increasing credit/financing distribution, especially in supporting government programs such as the 3 million homes program and increasing penetration of MSME financing.
Meanwhile, the Acting Governor of East Java, Adhi Karyono, in his remarks expressed his hope that BPD could become a strategic partner for the government in formulating innovative and adaptive policies.
"Collaboration between the government, banking sector, and the community is the main key to creating sustainable economic growth," concluded Adhi. (say)
