Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan reviewed the repair of Gajayana Stadium which is one of the venues for the 23th East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov), Thursday (1/2025/XNUMX). In addition to conducting a joint review with the heads of related regional apparatuses, on this occasion the Acting Mayor of Malang also attended a coordination meeting agenda with the Chairperson of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) of Malang City and the Malang City Disporapar.

As previously informed, Malang Raya is hosting the implementation of the 9th East Java Porprov. Malang City as one of the areas of Malang Raya has also been preparing venues for the sports that are being competed. One of them is the Gajayana Stadium which will later be used as the opening venue as well as the venue for athletics and football.
Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan revealed that the Malang City Government through the Youth, Sports, and Tourism Agency (Disporapar) is focusing on preparing the venues that will be used later so that they can provide comfort for athletes who will compete. "So we ensure that the venues that will be used for the Porprov matches are up to standard, especially the athletics branch at Gajayana Stadium," he explained.
Iwan said that the Malang City Government also provided a grant to KONI as a form of support for athlete development and strategy development so that Malang City can achieve the best achievements. "As conveyed by the KONI Chairman, in the IX East Java Porprov we are targeting 162 gold medals. This target is far above the target achievement in previous Porprov," said Iwan.
Furthermore, Iwan advised that Malang City as one of the hosts together with Batu City and Malang Regency, is committed to providing comfort to all athletes who will compete in Malang City. In addition, according to him, the advantage as a host must be utilized as well as possible to achieve the best achievements. "We will show that Malang City will be able to be a good host in organizing and in its achievements," said Iwan.
Of the 37 sports venues that will be held in Malang City, not all of them belong to the Malang City Government, but some belong to the business world and also universities. Therefore, the Acting Mayor of Malang hopes that the implementation of the XNUMXth East Java Porprov in Malang Raya can provide a multiplier effect, both for the economy, increasing the number of tourists, and so on.
Confirming the statement of the Acting Mayor of Malang, the Chairman of KONI Malang City Djoni Sudjatmoko said that the target of achieving 162 gold medals was not without reason, because it had been mapped out previously, per athlete and per sport. "Malang City athletes continue to be boosted in their performance to be able to give their best achievements," said Djoni.
Currently, 1.000 selected athletes from Malang City have been prepared and will continue to be trained and then filtered to become Malang City's mainstay. "From the 1.000 athletes currently being prepared, they will later be filtered to 750 athletes who will go to defend Malang City in the IX East Java Porprov. We continue to monitor and evaluate," concluded Djoni. (cah/yn)
