Malang (malangkota.go.id) – Flood management in the Soekarno-Hatta (Suhat) area has reached a bright spot. As is known, the problem of flooding in Malang City, one of which is in the Suhat area, has been homework for the Malang City Government from year to year. Various efforts have continued to be made, from one leadership period to the next, continued during the leadership period of Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan.

Most recently, flood management in the Suhat area was not only budgeted through the 2025 Malang City Budget, but also supported by the East Java Provincial Budget. This was conveyed by the Acting Mayor of Malang during a coordination meeting discussing flood management with the Heads of related Regional Apparatus in the Malang City Hall Meeting Room, Thursday (6/2/2025).
Iwan is optimistic that this homework can be completed, considering that a budget of Rp32 billion has been allocated in the East Java Provincial Budget. With the certainty of this budget, Iwan emphasized to his staff to prepare the technical plan as well as possible.
"So it can be said, our plan (drainage development) to handle flooding in Suhat received a positive response from the province, the value is IDR 32 billion. We have also budgeted in PU (PUPRKP Malang City Service) in 2025 for diversion, according to the proposal from PU Province. I am optimistic that this can be completed, because of that we continue to mature it," he said confidently.
Some of the things discussed in this coordination meeting include the arrangement of trees, billboards, traffic signs, and electricity and lighting facilities as a result of the drainage development plan. Iwan also hopes that this arrangement can be communicated well and completed soon.
"This (arrangement of trees, billboards, traffic signs, and electricity and lighting facilities) is a consequence that we need to communicate well. Later, technically, I hope that the relevant regional apparatus can immediately complete it. Our shared hope is that this effort will be a strategic step and reason which is the right answer to the flood problem and provides good benefits for the people of Malang City," concluded Iwan.
