Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Referring to data released by the East Java Provincial Library and Archives Service, in 2024 the Reading Enthusiasm Level (TGM) in Malang City was in the 'Very High' category with a value of 83. This achievement places the TGM figure in Malang City as the second highest in East Java after Surabaya City. Previously, in 2022 Malang City was in 22nd position, and in 2023 it rose to 14th position out of 38 regencies/cities in East Java.

This achievement is inseparable from the hard work and various real steps from all elements, especially the Public Library and Regional Archives Service (Dispussipda) of Malang City. Among others, the optimization of reading cars that go around to a number of smart homes, book delivery services by motorbike and the Reading Community Literacy Movement (Gelis Maca) program.
Head of the Malang City Dispussipda, Yayuk Hermiati when met on Tuesday (11/2/2025) revealed that the TGM assessment indicators were the frequency of community reading every week, the number of reading materials per quarter, the duration of reading per day, the frequency of internet access per week, and the duration of internet access per day.
Yayuk explained that the innovation steps of Gelis Maca are to optimize the management of smart homes that have been formed, assistance with quality reading materials from the National Library in smart homes, use of digital books in Smart Homes (Socialization of i-Pusnas and Installation of QR-Code for Digido Reading Centers), mentoring from the literacy community for new users in smart homes, writing workshops for users in smart homes, and collaboration with external partners (Universities in making studies of the results of mentoring from the IKAPI (Indonesian Publishers Association) Literacy Community in assistance with printing books, writing workshops.
In optimizing TGM, Yayuk said that his party prioritized and optimized the existence of 15 smart homes in the suburbs and collaborated with book publishers. "Each smart home receives assistance from the publisher in the form of digital books worth around Rp5 million," he said.
For 2025, Yayuk targets to maintain the TGM figure achievement like last year, because to surpass the City of Surabaya according to her, it takes even harder work. Some of the efforts that will be made include continuing to open services on Monday-Saturday at the Public Library and in other places, such as at the Digital Reading Corner (POCADI) at the Merdeka Public Service Mall (MPP), Malang Creative Center (MCC) and Taman Trunojoyo.
"We will also intensify visits to 15 smart homes, look for or add more smart homes, and apply for assistance of 1.000 books and shelves to the National Library for sub-district libraries. Of the total 25 sub-districts proposed, 20 were accepted," Yayuk concluded. (say/yn)
