Paris, February 12, 2025 – French President Emmanuel Macron has confirmed his plans to visit Indonesia in May 2025.
The statement was delivered directly to the Minister of Communication and Digital of the Republic of Indonesia, Meutya Hafid, on the sidelines of the AI Action Summit which took place at the Grand Palais, Paris, Tuesday (11/2/2025).
"I will…I will…I love your country,” Macron told Meutya Hafid, confirming his intention to make a state visit to Indonesia.
If it goes ahead, it would be the first state visit by a French president to Indonesia since the two countries' joint declaration of a strategic partnership in 2011, when Prime Minister François Fillon and President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono met in Jakarta.
Minister Meutya Hafid welcomed the planned visit and assessed that Macron's presence would be an important moment in strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and France.
"President Macron's visit to Indonesia will further strengthen strategic cooperation in various sectors, including the digital economy, artificial intelligence, defense, and green energy," he said.
Indonesia and France have close diplomatic relations with various cooperation in the fields of trade, defense, and technology. Macron's presence in Indonesia is expected to open a new chapter in the strategic partnership of the two countries, especially in facing global challenges in the digital era.
President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to meet with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and attend a number of strategic agendas that reflect the commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation. This visit is expected to produce concrete agreements that will have a broad impact on Indonesia-France relations in the future. (*)
