Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan expressed his gratitude for the finalization of the handover of the former Bank Mandiri Syariah land. According to him, this is the initial step in efforts to resolve the problem of parking availability in the Kayutangan area.

"Alhamdulillah, today Forkopimda also attended, we can now carry out the process of signing the release of land to us. Payment has also been made directly from Bank Jatim to Mr. Hutomo. Hopefully this will run according to the stages we want, related to the handling of parking in Kayutangan," he said.

Iwan further stated that after the land handover process, the Malang City Government will focus on the design planning process by involving consultants. This design process is an essential part, because it needs to consider various aspects, especially related to the status of the building which is a cultural heritage, and the concept heritage which is closely associated with Kayutangan.

In addition to adjusting the concept heritage, Iwan asked that the design of the Kayutangan parking lot must be able to provide comfort, security, and then in accordance with the volume needed. "I have conveyed one point, buildings that are cultural heritage buildings are maintained and not changed, if possible, become information centers, exhibition spaces,
which will later support the atmosphere of Kayutangan as a tourist attraction, with parking behind it," he explained.

After the compilation is done Engineering Design Details (DED), the parking lot development project will enter the auction and construction work stage, so that the parking lot can be fully utilized at Christmas and New Year 2026. "Hopefully it can run smoothly and provide many benefits to the community," he hoped.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Malang City Transportation Agency, R. Widjaja Saleh Putra, said that the land handover process was the initial step in the process of procuring parking land in the Kayutangan area which had been ongoing since September 2024. Efforts to provide parking land in Kayutangan itself had begun to be studied in 2019, starting from a location survey, then narrowing down to six locations, until finally succeeding in purchasing the former Bank Syariah Mandiri land with an area of approximately 1.334 square meters worth IDR 25,3 billion.

Widjaja said that the Malang City Government has prepared funds of Rp19 billion for the construction of the Kayutangan parking lot. The man who is familiarly called Jaya said that later this parking lot will be designed to be integrated with the former DLH office land. "One of the reasons why we chose to buy this land is the connectivity with the former DLH. So one with the other is connected, not standing alone, and optimizing the use of regional government assets is important," he explained.

Regarding the process of compiling the DED and the construction to be carried out, Widjaja said that his party would build further communication with stakeholders, including the Cultural Heritage Expert Team (TACB), the Indonesian Architectural Association (IAI), and also the surrounding community in order to formulate a building design that will later be attempted to function optimally, without neglecting the heritage concept that is closely related to the Kayutangan area.

“How to build the most appropriate building, can give the impression heritage still exist, but parking services are still fulfilled. So we will maintain the front building, then we will build a vertical parking lot," he concluded. (iu/yn)
