TPS Revitalization Optimizes Waste Handling

Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – As one of the efforts to realize a clean, healthy, and sustainable city, the Malang City Government has taken steps to revitalize a number of Temporary Shelters (TPS) in Malang City. The construction of TPS is one of the priority programs of the Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan.

Acting Mayor of Malang Iwan Kurniawan symbolically accepted the handover of the revitalization of the Purwantoro TPS

This TPS revitalization program is running with the support of business actors through the program Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Corporate Social Responsibility (TSP). Head of the Environmental Service (DLH) of Malang City Noer Rahman Wijaya revealed that a total of six TPS points were repaired through this program, namely TPS located in Muharto, Sulfat, Merjosari, Jalan Ikan Tombro, Jalan Kartini, and Jalan Wilis.

"Today, the Acting Mayor symbolically carried out the handover and inauguration. The Sulfat TPS has been completed, the Merjosari TPS is 90 percent complete, just waiting for finishing. Specifically for waste management in Muharto, it is not permanent, but more towards steps to decompose the problem of wild waste generation," explained Rahman while at the Merjosari TPS, Friday (14/2/2025).

Rahman appreciates the concern of business actors who have poured out funds for the improvement of TPS in Malang City "We do not see how much the rupiah value is, but see it more as a form of benefit that cannot be done using the Malang City APBD. This is assistance from business actors to help improve waste management in Malang City," he continued.

Rahman said that six of the 77 TPS became pilot project improvement of waste management facilities in Malang City. "This is the first step and motivation to improve other TPS facilities. Hopefully this can inspire both the government and the private sector to better manage waste in Malang City," said Rahman.

Rahman said that several repairs were carried out so that the TPS function could be optimized, such as raising the walls, repairing the roof frame, making a special runway for garbage collection vehicles to enter and exit, and painting.

Based on data from DLH, in 2024 the total amount of waste generated in Malang City reached 731,29 tons/day. 98,68 percent of the total has been successfully managed. It is hoped that with the improvement of facilities, one of which is TPS, waste management in Malang City will be better and contribute to supporting Indonesia Free of Waste 2025. (ari/yn)
