Head of Food Security Division of East Java Province's Agriculture and Fisheries Service, Pujiati Ningsih, who was present to open the event, said that this GPM was the eighth event and according to her, it was inseparable from the good collaboration between the East Java Province's Agriculture and Fisheries Service and the Malang City Agriculture and Fisheries Service.

This Cheap Market Movement, said Puji, was held to make it easier for the community to buy various quality basic necessities at affordable prices. "This morning we collaborated with the Malang City Government, Kanjuruhan University Malang, Bulog, ID Food, Prima Freshmart, Bernadi and Perumda Tunas to provide cheap quality products," he explained again.
On this occasion, Puji also appealed to the public not to panic buying as the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr moments approach, the stock of basic necessities, one of which is rice stock in East Java is guaranteed to be safe. "Not only for this month, rice stock in East Java is still safe for the next five months," explained Puji.
Meanwhile, Head of Food Security Division of Malang City Food and Agriculture Service Elfiatur Roikhah said that GPM is one of the efforts to maintain the supply and price stability of basic necessities by providing various affordable commodities for the community. "GPM will continue to be intensified by Malang City Food and Agriculture Service for a full month in the period of March 2025 in various areas in Malang City every day," said Elfi.
One of the residents of Bandungrejosari Village, Hartini, admitted that she was happy and welcomed this cheap food movement. Because the basic ingredients provided at GPM, starting from rice, oil, onions, shallots and various other basic necessities are priced below market prices. "Unfortunately the cheap market is only for today, if it were longer, it would certainly be easier for us, because the place is also close to our house," said Hartini. (cah/yn)
