Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Yahya Zaini, revealed that from the results of the supervision involving the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) and the Director General of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, nine food products were found to contain borax and formalin from 28 food products that were sampled.

The content is found in many salted fish and anchovy food products. "From this finding, we ask the public to be vigilant and we together with BPOM, district/city governments and other parties will continue to provide supervision and detection," he added.

Yahya added, from these results it will be traced where it came from, and if it is found that there was deliberate mixing of food/drink products with hazardous substances, then sanctions will be imposed according to applicable regulations. "For individuals who are proven to be perpetrators, for example traders or distributors, sanctions will be imposed according to applicable laws. Because this can be dangerous for the health of the community," he said.

Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Malang City, Erik Setyo Santoso said that the visit of the members of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives was also in the framework of approaching the Holy Month of Ramadan.
