Malang (malangkota.go.id) – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 8 Surabaya strictly prohibits the public from carrying out any activities on the railway line, including while waiting for the time to break the fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

KAI Daop 8 Surabaya Public Relations Manager, Luqman Arif said that activities on the railway line can endanger the safety of the train journey and yourself. This, he added, is still often found in people who carry out activities around the railway line.
"We remind you that the railway line is not a place for activities other than railway operations," he stressed, Thursday (8/3/2025)
Luqman Arif reiterated that the prohibition on carrying out activities on railway lines has been regulated in Law No. 23 of 2007 concerning Railways. Article 181 paragraph (1) states that everyone is prohibited from being in the railway line benefit space.
Including carrying out activities such as dragging, moving, placing or moving goods on rails and using railway lines for purposes other than rail transport.
"Those who violate will be subject to sanctions in accordance with Article 199, with a maximum prison sentence of three months or up to Rp. 15.000.000," said Luqman.
As a preventive measure, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya actively conducts patrols and also socialization in its operational areas where community activities are often encountered.
"Officers of Polsuska Daop 8 Surabaya and officers on the crossing will firmly disband the community activities for the sake of mutual safety. KAI does not prohibit them from carrying out activities, but not on the railway line," he said.
KAI is committed to prioritizing the safety of customers and the community living around the railway. KAI invites all parties to work together to maintain security by not carrying out activities around the railway.
"For people who see any suspicious or dangerous activities around the railway tracks, they are advised to immediately report to KAI officers or authorities to prevent accidents," added Luqman.
With these various steps taken, KAI hopes to create a safe, secure and comfortable train journey and railway environment for all parties.
"KAI emphasizes to the entire community, especially during Ramadan, not to carry out any activities around the railway lines because it requires a safe space for its operations, and any disturbance on the railway lines has the potential to cause a fatal accident risk," concluded Luqman. (say/yn)
