Philatelic Community of Malang City

Malang City has an active and enthusiastic philatelic community. Until now, there are at least 105 people who have joined this community. The Malang Philatelic community is the Malang Philatelic Association (PFM) and the Malang Philatelic Community (KFM).

The types of philately are:

1. Stamp Philately: Collecting and studying stamps from various countries and periods.

2. Envelope Philately: Collecting and studying envelopes that have been used to send letters.

3. Postcard Philately: Collecting and studying postcards that have been used to send messages.

4. Document Philately: Collecting and studying other philatelic documents such as letters, contracts, etc.

Malang City Philately Facilitator, Jesi Palupi, when interviewed on Saturday (8/3/2025) said that philately has many benefits, including increasing knowledge about history, geography, culture and developing skills such as observation, analysis, and classification.

"From this philately, we can also increase creativity in collecting and presenting collections and can build communities with people who have the same interests," added Jesi.

Philatelic activities in Malang include regular monthly meetings, exhibitions and philatelic courses, so that these various activities can further increase the insight and members and enthusiasts of the community.

For those interested in starting to become a philatelist, Jesi explained that it can be done in various stages, namely buying stamps from philatelic stores or online, collecting envelopes that have been used to send letters. Next, collecting Postcards that have been used to send messages and reading philatelic books to learn more about philately.

"By starting philately, we can enjoy a fun and educational hobby. The existence of philately, in addition to being a hobby, is also to record the nation's history and educate the public. For example, from stamps we can see various events. Like when the country was launching a food self-sufficiency program, stamps were issued with pictures of food self-sufficiency," explained Jesi.

This stamp is one of the country's identities and will never be removed even though technological advances are modern. Like the subscription/digital stamps, physical stamps will still be produced even though the number is limited or not so much. (say/yn)
