Ensure Safe Homecoming Trip, Health Office Checks Drivers' Health

Starfruit (malangkota.go.id) – Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijri, the Malang City Health Office (Dinkes) conducted a health check for drivers of Inter-City Within Province (AKDP) and Inter-City Inter-Province (AKAP) buses at the Arjosari Terminal, Thursday (20/3/2025). This health check was carried out to ensure that drivers are in prime health condition, so they can drive safely.

Head of the Malang City Health Office Dr. Husnul Muarif said that this health check is important for drivers. Husnul also explained that drivers who have undergone a health check will receive a roadworthy certificate valid from March 23 to April 8, 2025.

This activity was also carried out in accordance with the central government policy as stated in the Circular of the Indonesian Minister of Health Number: HK.02.01/MENKES/164/2025 concerning Preparedness for the Homecoming Flow and Eid al-Fitr Holidays in 1446 Hijriah/2025 AD.

"This is a serious concern for us, because we want people who are going home to feel safe and comfortable. So we first make sure whether the driver is healthy, drug-free, does not drink alcohol, so that they can drive safely," he explained.

On the same occasion, Head of Public Health of Malang City Health Office, drg. Muhammad Zamroni explained that there are three categories of health check results, namely roadworthy, roadworthy with notes, and unroadworthy. Malang City Health Office also targets to conduct checks on at least 100 drivers.

"If the person concerned is declared unroadworthy, then we will coordinate with the terminal and Polresta (Malang City) to be conveyed to the PO whether the driver needs to rest and we will provide a referral for a health facility according to domicile. Hopefully, this year's homecoming and return flow will have no accident cases due to drivers who are not roadworthy," he continued.

Zamroni explained that there were several types of examinations carried out this time, namely spirometry tests to assess lung function, blood pressure (tension) and blood sugar checks, alcohol checks, and urine tests to detect several types of NAPZA. This activity was carried out by the Health Office through health centers and regional health laboratories and in collaboration with the Malang Police and the Malang City National Narcotics Agency (BNN).

This activity is also linked to the Free Health Check-up (PKG) program so that they get a more complete check-up. "We also direct these drivers to do PKG at the health center according to their respective domiciles. If currently we only do four types of check-ups, in PKG there are 12 types of check-ups. So birthdays or not for drivers are free," he concluded.

This health check-up program also received positive appreciation from one of the drivers, Siswanto. "This check-up is very useful, especially for me who has high blood pressure. Moreover, getting medicine and vitamins is very helpful. For all drivers, don't be afraid to check your health, to control your body and physical condition, especially before the holidays," said the Harapan Jaya Bus driver with the Malang-Jakarta route.
