Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat said that the Malang City Government respects the land use agreement that has been in place for years. His party will also focus on organizing education that is the authority of the city government, namely at the elementary and junior high school levels.

"We from the Malang City Government, understand and respect the cooperation on the use of land use loans that have occurred in previous periods. We try to coordinate and understand each other's positions, so today we sit down and together find the best solution to resolve this," he explained.

Wahyu said, in mediating this problem, the Malang City Government needs to be careful in providing solutions, because it needs to consider various aspects on both sides. Both from social, physical, legal, and existing policy aspects, such as school zoning policies.

According to him, both the Malang City Government and UM have the same desire to advance the world of education, so that discussions will continue to be built to determine the solutions that will be taken to solve the problem and how education development in Malang City will be carried out. "At this first meeting, we agreed that there are priorities for short-term, medium-term, and long-term solutions that will be discussed again at the next meeting stage," said the number one person in the ranks of the Malang City Government.

For information, the four schools in question are SMAN 8 and SMPN 4 Malang City, SD Ujian I, and SD Negeri Sumbersari 3, which have been occupying UM asset land with a borrowed status. The use of this land was apparently a finding in an audit conducted by the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), so that according to BPK's direction, UM plans not to extend the agreement through a letter that has been sent to the Malang City Government and the East Java Provincial Education Office on January 13, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor of UM Prof. Dr. Hariyono, M.Pd said that his party has built communication with the Malang City Government to find solutions related to the implementation of education under the Malang City Government. He hopes that with intensive discussions and coordination, the best solution will be found for each party.

"There have been several solutions offered. We take an example for the elementary school building which will be moved to an empty school due to the school being merged. While for the high school level, namely SMAN 8, one of the solutions offered is to be moved to an area that does not yet have a state high school such as in Blimbing and Lowokwaru Districts," he concluded.
