People's School Program in Malang City to be Realized Soon

Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – The Malang City Government (Pemkot) is preparing various facilities for the implementation of the Central Government program, namely the People's School (SR). This educational program initiative by President Prabowo Subianto targets children from underprivileged families and extremely poor families.

Head of the Education and Culture Office of Malang City, Suwarjana

Head of the Malang City Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud), Suwarjana, when met on Monday (14/4/2025), revealed that his party has currently begun measuring the location, both for the prospective school building and for the dormitory which will later become the subject of a coordination meeting with the P3AP2KB Social Service and also the Central Government.

"God willing, the building used in the Tlogowaru Sub-district area is the former Poltekkom building, while the flats in front of Poltekkom will be used as dormitories," explained Suwarjana.

Suwarjana said, for the initial stage, his party is projecting to open two to three study groups (rombel) each at the elementary and junior high school levels. "If according to the provisions, the rombel for elementary school level is 28 students, while for junior high school 32 students. However, the exact number is waiting for further instructions," he added.

This SR program, Suwarjana emphasized, will not disrupt the existence of private schools, considering that the targeted segmentation of this SR is children from extremely poor families. "No need to worry. This SR will not reduce students who enter private schools, because this People's School is intended for disadvantaged children with extreme poverty whose data is already in the Social Service," he explained.

Meanwhile, for the People's School educators, the information will be sent from the Ministry of Education, including for dormitory officers, but Suwarjana emphasized that for certainty, they are still waiting for a coordination meeting. (cah/yn)
