Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat took part in the excitement and joy of the Easter celebration as well as the 29th Anniversary of the East Javanese Christian Church (GKJW) Tunjungsekar, Lowokwaru District, Malang City, Sunday (20/4/2025).
In his speech, the Mayor of Malang, Wahyu Hidayat, said that these two things were important moments that had deep meaning, because they were not only spiritual reflections, but also a celebration of the long journey of GKJW Tunjungsekar in serving the people and community of Tunjungsekar for 29 years.
Wahyu also appreciated the entire series of activities that had been carried out, starting from worship, healthy walk, flashmob, to the distribution of prizes. According to him, the activity also showed that the church is not only a place of worship, but also a center for driving social and cultural life that is fun and builds a spirit of togetherness.
"On behalf of the Malang City Government (Pemkot), I would like to convey my congratulations on celebrating Easter and my congratulations on the 29th anniversary of GKJW Tunjungsekar. An age that is no longer young, but full of maturity and real contributions," he said.
Wahyu further said that the Malang City Government continues to strive to create a harmonious life in Malang City through one of the Dasa Bakti Unggulan, namely Ngalam Santun, which emphasizes the formation of polite community characters which are expected to lead to the realization of a conducive, inclusive, and tolerant Malang City.
In order to realize this, Wahyu emphasized that the Malang City Government certainly cannot run by itself. According to him, there needs to be support from all components of society, including the GKJW congregation and the community around Tunjungsekar.
"Therefore, I invite all GKJW Tunjungsekar congregations to jointly support every development program of Malang City. Active participation in maintaining harmony is also a valuable asset for the development of Malang City," he said.
When met separately, the Chairperson of the GKJW Tunjungsekar Council, Reverend Retnosari, said that the presence of the Mayor of Malang in the midst of the GKJW Tunjungsekar congregation was expected to show that the existence of the GKJW congregation was also a part of life in the city of Malang.
"I hope that with the presence of the Mayor, it can further open the horizons of the residents, that this congregation is part of life in Malang City, there is a sense of connection. That's why I said earlier mature (polite Javanese meaning to say/convey) to the Mayor, whatever the policy of the Malang City Government is, you will...support," he said.
This celebration activity was attended by 530 congregations from a total of 973 congregations from various regions in Malang who are registered at GKJW Tunjungsekar. Rev. Retno also hopes that the presence of the Mayor of Malang at this event can be a spark of new enthusiasm for the congregation of GKJW Tunjungsekar.
"We hope that he as the regional head of Malang City also feels the joy with us, and this is a long-awaited moment, the Mayor can be present with the residents," he concluded. (iu/yn)
