Market Snack Festival, Increasing the Liveliness of Malang City Market

Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat opened the Market Snack Festival at Klojen Market, Malang City, Wednesday (23/4/2025). The Market Snack Festival was held simultaneously in three other markets, namely Oro-oro Dowo Market, Sawojajar Market, and Tawangmangu Market.

Carrying the theme 'Celebrating Feelings, Building Stories, Uniting in Tradition', this festival will be held until April 30, 2025. In addition to enlivening the 111th Anniversary of Malang City, this event is also part of road to Indonesian Creative Works (KKI) 2025 and is a real support for culinary MSMEs typical of Malang as well as an effort to preserve the tradition of market snacks that are rich in taste and stories.

Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat expressed his appreciation for the implementation of the Market Snack Festival. Wahyu said that this event is a form of collaboration between the city government and the banking world in advancing the economy of Malang City and is the embodiment of the vision, mission and Dasa Bakti that have been determined by the Mayor of Malang, namely Ngalam Laris and Ngalam Asik.

“We created Ngalam Laris to empower MSMEs, empower local wisdom that we must improve. There are many potentials, one of which is market snacks. Regarding Ngalam Asyik, we are indeed forming a tourism business ecosystem. We change people's views about markets that used to be dirty, shabby, smelly, crowded, we make them more fun. Alhamdulillah, now many people have come to the market to be able to shop and enjoy culinary delights," he explained.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bank Indonesia Representative Office (KPw) BI Malang Febrina said that the event was initiated by banking institutions in Malang City together with the Malang City Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade Service (Diskopindag). She hopes that the implementation of this event can have an impact on improving the economy, especially for MSMEs. "This is one of the efforts to attract people to come back to the market even though it is already crowded, but we will enliven it again. We are also trying through the tourism sector to revive the proud Indonesian-made movement through its market snacks and also the proud Indonesian tourism movement," she said.

Febrina admitted that the market in Malang City has been well organized. "This is the first time in Malang that we appreciate it, and it is great that the Malang City Government can provide a comfortable market. So people no just shopping AHA, but there is also a culinary attraction so people feel at home hanging out in the market. Because a comfortable market is the key for visitors to be able to come," said Febrina frankly.

Febrina said that the Market Snack Festival is also a form of support for the Malang City Government's flagship program, namely holding a thousand events to make Malang City a tourist destination, including in the culinary sector. Febrina explained that it is not only a culinary festival from Malang City's MSMEs, but this event is also a socialization media related to the Love, Proud, Understand (CBP) Rupiah program, the use of QRIS to facilitate buying and selling transactions, to halal certification.
