Kedungkandang (malangkota.go.id) – Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat opened the Malang Mayor's Cup Karate Championship at the Ken Arok Sports Arena (GOR), Malang City, Saturday, (17/5/2025). This karate championship was attended by 18 contingents from various regions in East Java, including Lumajang Regency, Probolinggo, Blitar and Malang Regency.
311 karatekas from various ages and classes competed in this event to be the best. In addition to recruiting professional and talented athletes, this championship is also a preparation event for the 2025th East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) XNUMX which will be held in Malang Raya.
The Mayor of Malang after opening the championship advised the participants to uphold sportsmanship, professionalism, respect the opponent, referee and committee. "We really support and appreciate it. Hopefully later we will net karateka who meet expectations. This is also one of the realizations of my vision and mission and the Deputy Mayor of Malang, namely realizing Malang Tahes (healthy)," added Wahyu.
Furthermore, the number one person in the Malang City Government admitted that he was optimistic that in this championship, Malang City karate athletes would be able to achieve the expected results.
Likewise, in the 2025 Porprov event at the end of June 2025, Wahyu is optimistic that Malang City karate athletes can win five gold medals. "We believe that the target can be realized. For the coaches or contingents, we hope they can realize it," concluded Wahyu. (say/yn)
