Retreat Over, Malang City ASN Ready to Improve Public Service Performance

Malang (malangkota.go.id) – Leadership Training and Strengthening Teamwork Building The Malang City Government held at the Army Polytechnic (POLTEKAD) Malang was officially closed by the Mayor of Malang Wahyu Hidayat, Saturday (17/5/2025). In the retreat activity which took place on May 15-17, 2025, the participants consisting of regional secretaries, expert staff, assistants, heads of regional apparatus, BUMD directors, sub-district heads to village heads were not only trained physically and mentally, but also equipped with leadership values, collaboration, and a spirit of service.

With the end of the training, it is hoped that all participants can apply the knowledge and experience they have gained to strengthen public services, governance, good and clean government, and acceleration of bureaucratic reform.

The Mayor of Malang, Wahyu Hidayat in his direction encouraged the participants to continue to strengthen solidarity and synergy, and build real collaboration within the Malang City Government. Wahyu emphasized that only with collaborative work, the Malang City Government will be able to succeed in national and provincial priority programs up to the vision of Malang City which ultimately leads to the achievement of community welfare.

Wahyu also hopes that after participating in this training, participants can apply all the knowledge they have gained in their daily work, both in leading a team and in making decisions that have an impact on public service. "Leadership is not just about position, but about being an example, sensitivity, and the ability to mobilize potential. Also how to build teamwork, let's form ourselves as ASN who are collaborative, not competitive. Be an agent of change who is able to give a positive influence in the work environment. Invite other colleagues to move together to realize a professional, dynamic, and responsive bureaucracy," he said.

After the retreat, Wahyu said that his party will monitor all work units and services within the Malang City Government. The hope is that there will be an increase in quality between performance and services during the pre-retreat and post-retreat. "I will see firsthand how the implementation steps of what was obtained during the retreat, both the impact on other colleagues and the community. Let's show the community that our public services are getting better. We must be more mbois again,” he invited.

Met on the same occasion, the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Malang City, Erik Setyo Santoso revealed that this retreat is an effort by the Malang City Government to accelerate the achievement of the vision and mission of the regional head that has been stated in the RPJMD (Regional Medium-Term Development Plan) through strengthening collaboration. "It is very much felt in this retreat, all the barriers, borders, shells that have existed so far can be eroded. So it strengthens unity and reduces diversity. Differences in mindset are also harmonized in this retreat. Hopefully our RPJMD can be achieved, even faster," he said frankly.

Increasing the capacity of each participant in terms of leadership style and coordination is also a key point in this activity. "How can we elaborate all stakeholders in accelerating the achievement of the RPJMD. No less important is governance, especially in public services. We hope there will be acceleration, quality improvement," he concluded.

Appreciation and positive assessment of the retreat activity was expressed by one of the retreat participants, Alie Mulyanto, who serves as Expert Staff for Development, People's Welfare and Human Resources of the Malang City Regional Secretariat. He said that many things and experiences were gained from the activity that could then be implemented in daily work.

“A lot of knowledge, enthusiasm, too skill that we gain in working and leading a team. Basically, our goal is to provide the best service to the community. It is impossible for us to provide the best without recognizing the potential, conditions, and needs of the community. That is what we will continue to strengthen, as well as how to build relationships so that the service is even better," he explained.

Meanwhile, Laode Muhammad Arif Mahendra who also attended the retreat said that the implementation of this retreat encouraged all lines in the Malang City Government to provide complete services to the community. "This motivates us in the region to be able to provide optimal public services. In addition, our synergy and communication are better established, and this will support our performance in providing services to the community," said the Kedungkandang Village Head. (ari/yn)
