Lowokwaru (malangkota.go.id) – Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat attended and opened the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) Conference entitled 'Revitalization and Consolidation of the Organization Towards a Strong and Independent PGRI' at the Hall of SMK PGRI 3 Malang City, Saturday (21/6/2025).

Mayor Wahyu expressed his appreciation for the holding of this PGRI conference, and emphasized the importance of the role of teachers in producing superior generations. He considered that this activity was in line with his vision and mission which was implemented in one of the Dasa Bakti Unggulan, namely Ngalam Smart which aims to prepare superior human resources (HR) to welcome Golden Indonesia.
"I really appreciate this conference because it is part of a strategic step to realize Ngalam Smart. It all started with the teachers,” said Wahyu.
On this occasion, the Mayor of Malang also emphasized the importance of the role of teachers as the spearhead in the formation of character and quality of students. He hopes that through PGRI, teachers in Malang City will be more solid and able to present quality education and have a broad impact on the progress of the nation.
"I am here because I am part of the teachers. My parents are teachers, and therefore, teachers will always be my priority," he added.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of PGRI Malang City Anthon Henawanto said that this conference is part of the struggle to strengthen the organization and fight for the future of the teaching profession. He emphasized that PGRI must appear as an organization that is structurally strong, financially independent, and ideologically solid.
"It is time for PGRI to become an organization that is not only needed, but also loved by its members. This is a shared home for struggle," Anthon stressed.
This conference also became a consolidation event for all educators in Malang City, from kindergarten to high school/vocational school levels, to align steps and determination in fighting for the rights and welfare of teachers.
Likewise, the Secretary of the East Java PGRI, Lukman Hakim, stated that this activity, apart from being a five-year agenda, is also a momentum to align the PGRI program with the vision and mission of the Malang City Government in the future.
"We hope that the results of this conference will produce massive and beneficial programs for all teachers in Malang City," he concluded. (cah/yn)
