After going through a long struggle, the men's and women's teams of Malang City managed to advance to the final match and won silver medals after facing the top team of Surabaya City in the dramatic final round at the Bimasakti GOR, Monday (6/2025/XNUMX).
The final match of the Malang City men's and women's teams was fierce and tense from the first minute. The Malang City basketball team performed enthusiastically and showed a solid collective game. The support of the supporters who filled the Bima Sakti GOR also fueled the players' spirits. However, despite fighting hard until the final long whistle, the women's team had to admit the toughness of the Surabaya women's team with a final score of 53-56. Meanwhile, the men's team lost quite badly to the Surabaya men's team with a final score of 38-72.
The struggle of the Malang City basketball team also received appreciation from various parties, including the Mayor of Malang, Wahyu Hidayat, who was present to witness and provide full support to the Malang City basketball athletes.
"I really appreciate the struggle, both the men's and women's teams. They are extraordinary. I saw firsthand how their spirit did not die even though they were behind. This is an important lesson about sportsmanship and the spirit of never giving up," said Wahyu enthusiastically.
Wahyu emphasized that the achievement of two silver medals is a new history for Malang City. "This is the best result and has never happened before. Silver from the men's and women's teams in an event as big as this is an extraordinary achievement. I congratulate all athletes, coaches, and officials," he added.
On the same occasion, the coach of the Malang City men's basketball team, Sugiharto Cahyadi, admitted that he was proud of the achievements of his team. He considered the players to have shown their best performance throughout the tournament.
"The kids played according to the scheme and instructions. They performed consistently from the preliminary round to the final. My main target was actually gold, but being able to make it to the final has shown very good progress," said the former Bima Sakti basketball player who is familiarly called Cuhox.
From the results of this match, the Malang City basketball team will conduct evaluations and improvements in terms of coaching and team management in order to be able to compete more strongly in the next event.
This result places Malang City as one of the most consistent contestants in the basketball sport of Porprov IX East Java. With two silver medals from the men's and women's teams, Malang City shows the potential to become a major force in the East Java basketball scene, even nationally.
