Klojen (malangkota.go.id) – The Mayor of Malang, Wahyu Hidayat, sent off 212 students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Brawijaya University (UB) Malang, participants in the Thematic Community Service (PKM) program of Cinta Statistik (Cantik) Village which was combined with the morning assembly of ASN of Malang City Government at Malang City Hall, Monday (23/6/2025).

The Mayor of Malang expressed his appreciation for the initiation of the program which is the result of collaboration between the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Malang City, FMIPA UB, and the Malang City Government. According to him, valid and accurate data is very important as a basis for formulating a policy. "This program is very important for the Malang City Government. If the basic data is not valid, of course the results of the policies taken will not be in accordance with shared expectations," said Wahyu.
The presence of students in this program is expected to support the implementation of data-based development. According to the Mayor of Malang, the spirit of dedication from students is very much needed to make this activity a success. "We want to invite the younger generation to become drivers of development in Malang City," he added.
The mayor also expressed his gratitude to BPS Malang City and FMIPA UB for their contribution in presenting students to contribute directly to the community. He hopes that this activity can run smoothly and successfully. "Building a nation cannot be done alone. We must move together, complementing and strengthening each other," he said.
Furthermore, Wahyu emphasized the importance of a humanistic approach in implementing activities in the field. He advised the students to go down to the community with an open heart.
"Invite the public to understand the importance of data, help them become part of the solution, and don't hesitate to share knowledge. Don't forget to learn from local wisdom, because academic knowledge will find its meaning when it comes into direct contact with social reality," he advised.
The number one person in the Malang City Government believes that activities like this will strengthen the implementation of the Program Satu Data which supports the acceleration of regional development based on data that is accurate, up-to-date, accountable, and easily accessible to regional apparatus and the community.
Meanwhile, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FMIPA UB, Nurjannah, M.Sc., explained that this activity is part of the Real Work Lecture (KKN) program which is routinely held every year. Different from the usual ones which are held in villages, this year the activity is focused on the Malang City area.
"This activity is a collaboration between the Malang City Government, BPS Malang City, and FMIPA UB, especially the Statistics and Data Science Study Program," explained Nurjannah.
He added that this program supports the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia regarding data integration through the Program Satu Data Indonesia. Over the next six weeks, students will carry out various activities ranging from data collection, data management, to compiling reports and presentations.
"A total of 212 students from two study programs are involved. Each group will have a different program, but in its implementation, in principle, it will be in line with the direction of the sub-district where they are assigned," he concluded. (cah/yn)
